I use the King James version of the bible, is there a plain English version that others would recommend?

The bible in plain English that I use is the ESV (English Standard Version), though there are many others. The other bible I generally use as well is the KJV.
At times, I like to listen to the bible rather than read. Bible audio in the different translations and versions is available in the following formats:
CD, Audiobook and mobile phone app.
